Any concerns regarding a staff member should be shared with the Headteacher unless your concern is about the Headteacher, then you shoudl direct your concerns to the Chair of Governors.
At Manor Farm Junior School, the health, safety and well-being of every child is our paramount priority. We have a statutory duty of care for the children who attend our school. We listen to our pupils, take seriously what they tell us and follow up concerns where appropriate. We want to work in partnership with parents, to help your child achieve well and be prepared for the next stage in their education.
Through our curriculum we ensure that pupils know how to keep themselves safe, report concerns and also how to support their peers in doing the same.
We promote a culture of 'Everyone's Responsibility' in our school setting. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. In order to fulfil this responsibility effectively, all professionals should make sure their approach is child-centred. This means that they should consider, at all times, what is in the best interests of the child.
In accordance with our responsibilities under section 175/157 of the Education Act 2002, we have a Designated Person for Child Protection, Mr Compton, who is the Headteacher, has received appropriate training for this role and trained as a trainer through the NSPCC. It is his responsibility to ensure that all staff, in contact with children, receive child protection awareness training, including training on issues such as radicalisation, child on child abuse, FGM and CSE, on a regular basis. The day to day responsibility of this role is shared with Mrs Rae, our Deputy Headteacher and Miss Ellis, our Child & Family Support Worker.
The school has adopted a Child Protection Policy in line with guidance from 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' DFE document and guidance from the local authority and our academy trust, for the safety of all our pupils. There are occasions that a concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies. We work with a range of agencies that are able to provide help, support and advice for parents and families. Whilst we would always aim to work in partnership with parents there may be exceptions to this, when concerns are raised, for the protection of a child.
We understand that at times parents/carers may have concerns about other families or children within our school setting. In this situation please come and talk to one of the above named persons to share your concerns. Similarly, we understand that there are times within a family setting that things become difficult. If you feel you would like some support or someone to talk to please do contact Miss Ellis (via the school office) who can offer a range of guidance and support in the first instance.
To ensure a safe environment for pupils, our Safer Recruitment Policy, requires us to complete checks on all staff and regular volunteers’ and their suitability, including Disclosure and Barring Service checks, as recommended by Buckinghamshire Council and in accordance with current legislation. All visitors to the school must enter via the main reception, sign in our using our Inventry visitor system and wear a visitors badge at all times. A leaflet is given to all new visitors to the school site, detailing key arrangements for safeguarding, fire, lockdown etc. All visitors are asked to switch off their mobile phones whilst on the school site beyond the main reception area or school hall.
We have high expectations of our staff and these expectations are set out in our staff code of conduct. We work closely with staff to ensure they feel supported with well-being and workload and use a number of strategies to support staff and make them feel valued and appreciated.
